SUMMARY:AIM for Active Learning
DESCRIPTION:Teaching for active learning intentionally involves learners in “authentic\, interactive\, meaningful” (AIM) processes to achieve learning goals. It places learners at the center of engaged learning as they think and examine more deeply\, compare and contrast\, grapple and dialogue\, explain and elaborate\, question and problem solve\, create and innovate\, organize and articulate ideas\, information\, perspectives\, understandings\, and reasoning for real-world applications. In short\, active learning goes beyond surface\, shallow\, or rote approaches to instruction and instead nurtures and energizes thinking that becomes all the more impactful in collaborative settings. In this session\, participants will (a) consider key elements of active learning\, (b) explore three broad purposes for involvement\, (c) examine a variety of strategies to facilitate active learning\, (d) experience selected strategies\, and (e) reflect on possible applications in one’s own role as a Master Gardener.1.25 CE credits
