School Gardens: Growing Food, Growing Learning, Growing Support  

K-12 School Gardens are growing around the globe. These outdoor classrooms and living laboratories are important for connecting student learning in all subjects and helping students become nature’s stewards. But more importantly, gardens can make a difference in solving the growing food insecurity among our children, families, and communities. The inequitable distribution and lack of nutrient-rich foods results in health and learning issues among our youth. School gardens can make a huge difference because what students grow, they will eat; however, most school gardens have difficulty thriving, and many fail. Community support is a key component in the quality and sustainability of school nature programs.
